NYPD and FDNY emergency responders rescued two people Sunday whose 24-foot fishing boat was taking on water in the ocean off Breezy Point, authorities said.

An unidentified man and woman were a mile south of Breezy Point when the engine of their Fiberglass vessel malfunctioned and water started to leak in, police said. They put out a distress call over a marine radio channel at 2:25 p.m.

The NYPD aviation unit arrived and lowered a rescue basket for the woman, 34, who had jumped into the water, and took her to Floyd Bennett Field.

The man, 55, stayed on the boat as FDNY personnel boarded and managed to stop the leak, officials said. They then took him and the boat to nearby Barren Island.

Neither passenger suffered serious injuries from the misadventure.
