A rubbish fire in a Queens park early Saturday led first responders to a man who had shot himself in the head, officials said.

Firefighters were called to Dr. Charles R. Drew Memorial Park on 116th Ave. in South Jamaica. about 7:30 a.m. for a small rubbish fire. But as they doused the flames, a parkgoer ran up to them and said a man was lying in a pool of blood nearby.

The victim, whose name was not immediately released, was found shot in the head, a gun still in his hand.

He was taken to Jamaica Hospital in critical condition.

Parkgoers were stunned by the grisly scene.

“We come here a lot – we’ve never seen nothing like this,” said Mehendra Chandra, 53, who went to the park for a Fourth of July cricket game. “It’s a good neighborhood.”

Neighbors were told that the man lived nearby the park.

“I’m in total shock,” said Rockeem McMillian, 37. “I was going to have a picnic here. I may change that.”
