Six workers hurt in LIC construction accident: FDNY

Construction is halted at a Long Island City site after six workers were injured in a partial collapse Monday.

Six construction workers were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries after a partial collapse of a construction site in Long Island City Monday morning, according to the FDNY. The incident occurred just after 11 a.m. at 42-20 27th St., a half block south of Queensboro Plaza, when part of the eighth floor gave way after concrete was poured into a 20-foot by 20-foot formwork, according to the city Department of Buildings.

The six workers were taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center with minor to moderate injuries while the Department of Buildings issued a full stop-work order at the site and issued an aggravated violation for failure to safeguard the site, according to a DOB spokesman. Brooklyn-based The Rabsky Group is building an 18-story apartment building at the site and the general contractor for the project is Galaxy Developers, according to the DOB.

Neither company could be reached for comment. The site was declared under control by 11:50 a.m., the FDNY said, and the incident remains under investigation.
