Port Authority Fire: Trash Fire Disrupts Evening Rush Hour

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — Firefighters are operating at the scene of a “large pile of garbage” on fire at the Port Authority Bus Terminal, an FDNY spokesman told Patch. The garbage fire spread to a nearby car, but is not affecting the Port Authority building, an FDNY spokesman said.

The fire broke out at 5:20 p.m., the FDNY spokesman said, just in time for the evening rush hour. Two engines were dispatched to take car of the fire, the spokesman said.

Nobody had to be evacuated from the bus terminal, but the firefighting efforts reportedly caused extensive delays on outbound buses. One passenger, a man named Sudeep Arya, Tweeted that his gate was packed with people waiting on long lines to get to New Jersey.
