NEW YORK CITY – The Uniformed Firefighters Association (UFA) formally announced the results of today’s leadership runoff elections.

Due to no candidate receiving a majority in round one, the race for President and Recording Secretary went into a runoff with Gerard Fitzgerald and Robert Eustace emerging victorious.

“Congratulations to Gerard Fitzgerald and Robert Eustace on becoming the next UFA President and Recording Secretary,” UFA President James Slevin said. “I am confident that Gerard will be a strong and effective President and continue to work tirelessly on behalf of firefighters across our City.”

Fitzgerald and the rest of the recently-elected officials will assume their new positions as of May 1st.

“I want to thank our union for the incredible honor of being elected to serve as your next President,” Fitzgerald said. “New York City Firefighters work hard every day to earn the title of ‘Bravest’ and I promise that I will work tirelessly on your behalf every single day of my term to fight for your rights and benefits.”

Outgoing President James Slevin will leave the UFA after 15 years and will continue on his work on behalf of firefighters as First District Vice President at the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF).

“On behalf of our entire membership, I want to thank Jim Slevin for his work over the last six months as interim UFA President and wish him the best with the International. New York City’s loss is the world’s gain,” Fitzgerald added.
