The fire broke out a little before midnight Wednesday at 581 3rd Ave., according to news reports and fire officials.

MURRAY HILL, NY — A fire broke out in the Subway sandwich shop at 581 3rd Ave. between East 38th and East 39th streets a little before midnight on Wednesday, running through three alarms and minorly injuring one firefighter, according to the Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY).

New York 4 reported the first and second floors of the building were on fire. A Subway and a sushi restaurant are ground-floor tenants of the five-story, mixed-use building.

An FDNY spokesperson could not say where the fire originated — only that it’s currently under investigation.

according to the spokesperson, one firefighter sustained minor injuries and was taken to the New York University (NYU) hospital.
