NEW YORK — A retired FDNY firefighter has died after fighting a 9/11-related cancer.
William Woodlan died Aug. 20, 2016, according to FDNY. He was 66.
Woodlon battled lung cancer for years, an illness believed to be linked to his time spent at Ground Zero after the 9/11 attacks.
The firefighter joined the FDNY in January 1982 and retired in February 2002. He worked with Engine 21 for most of his career.
In 2013, Woodlon got the chance to meet actor Jamie Foxx who tweeted about their friendship.

The wake for Woodlon will be held 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30th at Benta’s Funeral Home, 630 St. Nicholas Ave. in Harlem.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, at St. James Presbyterian Church, 409 W. 141st St., Harlem.
