A fire broke out inside a Queens home early Sunday, killing an 88-year-old man, witnesses and FDNY officials said.

The fire started on the first floor of a home on 87th St. and 25th Ave. in Elmhurst at 4:30 a.m., said FDNY Battalion Chief Frank Poulin. It took about 45 minutes and 65 firefighters to put the fire out.

The victim had severe burns on his body and died in the home, Poulin said.

The man’s name has not be released pending family notification.

Lucia Peralez lives next door and says the man didn’t interact with neighbors and lived alone.

“His wife died two years ago,” Peralez said. “He kept to himself. A nurse came to watch him.”

The fire is under investigation.
