A fire tore through a Lower East Side funeral home Monday evening, officials said.

The flames started around 10 p.m. at the Boe Fook Funeral Home on Ludlow Street and was later extinguished by FDNY units that responded.

The building suffered heavy damage and was being inspected for structural stability by the city’s Department of Buildings Tuesday.

The fire may have been sparked by a ceremonial fireplace used for burning pieces of paper with prayers and offerings written on them, according to sources.

Workers at the home refused to comment.
