Ridgewood Fire House Celebrates 100 Years of Service

NY 1 – September 30, 2015

The city celebrated a local firehouse’s 100 years of service Tuesday. Engine Company 291, Ladder Company 140 was established in October 1915. On Tuesday, Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro joined firefighters in Ridgewood to celebrate.

The firehouse serves Ridgewood and neighboring Bushwick and Glendale

“I hope it’s here for another 100 and one day another reporter is coming to another bicceential because all these guys do is care about is helping the community,” said FDNY Captain Steve Viola.

“[We’ve] Been celebrating all year our 150th anniversary, and now today we get to celebrate the 100th anniversary of these great firehouses and especially of all the great firefighters who work here,” Commissioner Nigro added.

Officials called the station the pride of the community.
