STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A 54-year-old man is dead after a raging fire early Monday morning in Rosebank.

The man, whose identity has not been released pending family notification, was unconscious when he was pulled from the two-story home at 21 Rosebank Place, according to spokesmen for the NYPD and the FDNY.

He was taken to Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze, where he was pronounced dead.

The fire began in the attic of the structure at approximately 2:34 a.m., according to an FDNY spokesman. It went to a second alarm at 2:49 a.m., which means the level of response reach 25 FDNY units and 106 firefighters.

The inferno was finally brought under control at 3:20 a.m., the FDNY spokesman said.

No other injuries were reported and the investigation is ongoing, police said.

The fire’s cause was not immediately known.

The second story and attic of the structure appeared charred after sunrise Monday morning.

The home displayed several signs with religious messages, including one with Psalm 5:11, “But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice.”
