FDNY Controls Fire in Vacant Home in South Beach

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. –- Firefighters responded to a blaze Wednesday night inside an empty home in South Beach. It was brought under control without injury. At 6:54 p.m., reports of flames coming from the basement of a vacant home within the 100 block of Olympia Boulevard caused firefighters to rush to the scene, said a FDNY spokesman.

The fire was under control by 7:33 p.m. with no reported injuries, according to the spokesman.

The cause of the fire is still undergoing investigation
