Man Left Critically Injured when Fire Tears through Lower East Side Apartment

A man was critically injured when a fire tore through a Lower East Side apartment on Wednesday, authorities said. The man, who was in his 50s, was rushed from the burning apartment on E. 13 St. at Ave. C around 2:50 p.m., a Fire Department spokesman said.

He was taken to Mount Sinai Beth Israel Hospital in critical condition.

One smoke-eater was injured, the fire official said.

The fire marshal was determining the cause of the blaze.
