7 FDNY Firefighters Treated, Released in BROOKLYN, N.Y.

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (WABC)- Seven firefighters were injured while battling a blaze in Brooklyn.

The fire, which has been under control since about 2 a.m., started in a two-story factory in the 300 block of Belmont Avenue and was contained in a kiln inside. No one was in the building at the time.

The seven firefighters were transported to Kings County hospital for serious injuries involving exposure and smoke inhalation. They have since been treated and released.

Firefighters arrived at the scene around 1 a.m. and found an unknown substance was burning inside the kiln. The building, which houses the Belmont Metals company, was not on fire. The business has been around for about 100 years.

HAZMAT and HAZTAC ambulances also responded to the scene
