WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — Two children were seriously hurt when a fire engulfed a high-rise apartment building near the Cross Bronx Expressway Tuesday morning, FDNY officials said.
The blaze broke out on the 30th floor of 1370 St. Nicholas Ave., near West 178th Street, about 4:50 a.m.,

More than 80 firefighters worked to bring it under control by about 5:25 a.m., officials said.
The FDNY said two children were taken to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in serious but stable condition, but did not release their ages.
The cause of the blaze was under investigation.
