UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — One person was seriously injured but is expected to survive when a two-alarm fire broke out Sunday night at the New York Institute of Technology campus on the Upper West Side, an FDNY spokesman told Patch.
The fire erupted on the 10th floor of the 12-story school building – located on the corner of Broadway and around West 61st Street – around 10:33 p.m. Sunday and was under control about an hour later, an FDNY spokesman said. The current cause of the fire is unknown.
One person was seriously injured during the fire and transported to an area hospital for treatment, an FDNY spokesman told Patch. The person, who is unidentified, is expected to survive their injuries, the FDNY spokesman said.
The fire provoked a large response from the FDNY and EMS, as 106 emergency personnel responded to the scene.
