by NBC Local

A raging fire that forced an evacuation torched a dormitory at Columbia University. Fire officials say the blaze broke out a little after 11 Wednesday night inside Ruggles Hall on West 114th Street and was brought under control about an hour later.

Twenty units responded and more than 75 firefighters helped in extinguishing the flames that started on the third floor of the eight-story building.

The dorm was evacuated, but no injuries were reported.

There’s no word yet as to what may have ignited the flames nor if anyone was allowed back inside after firefighters put the blaze out.
