Streets near the Empire State Building were shut down Tuesday when a water main broke on Fifth Avenue and East 33rd Street.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — A water main broke Tuesday morning below the street of the Empire State building, damaging the roadway and sidewalk, an FDNY spokesman said.
Fire department crews, Con Edison and the city Department of Buildings were on the scene of the water main break at Fifth Avenue and East 33rd Street Tuesday morning attempting to “alleviate the water condition,” an FDNY spokesman said.
The Empire State Building experience “minor water intrusion” during the water main break, but operations were not affected, building managers announced on social media.
