FLATBUSH, Brooklyn (WABC) — At least nine people were injured when a fire broke out inside an apartment building Brooklyn Thursday night.

It began in a third floor unit inside the seven-story building on East 26th Street in Flatbush around 9:30 p.m.

Three of the injured people were rushed to Kings County Hospital in critical condition.

“It was scary. We saw the smoke coming up from the third building and we got out. Then we saw people jump from the building, and paramedics were trying to give CPR to the adults who jumped and one of them was bleeding a lot, so I feel bad for the families, I really do,” said Diana Ramos, a resident.

The other six people suffered from smoke inhalation.

It’s not yet clear what started the fire.
