Additional charges have been filed against the two men linked to a house explosion in the Bronx that killed Michael Fahy, an FDNY chief, in September, according to the Bronx District Attorney’s Office.
Garivaldi Castillo, 32, of New York City, and Julio Salcedo, 34, of Cliffside Park, New Jersey, were arraigned Monday in State Supreme Court in the Bronx on six new counts of second-degree assault, the district attorney’s office said. The new charges are tied to people who were injured during the course of the Sept. 27 blast.
MICHAEL FAHY DEATH: 2 men indicted in connection with Bronx house explosion
Fahy was struck and killed by flying debris while he and fire crews responded to reports of a gas odor at the Kingsbridge home. The 17-year FDNY veteran was directing operations from the street when the house exploded.
Fahy, 44, was a second generation FDNY chief who grew up in Rockland County and lived with his family in Yonkers. He was promoted posthumously from battalion chief to the rank of deputy chief.
Castillo and Salcedo already face first-degree criminal possession of marijuana charges, along with a first-degree assault charge for Fahy’s injuries and a second-degree assault charge for injuring a lieutenant who had also responded to the call that day.
Both men could face up to 25 years in prison if convicted on all charges, according to the district attorney’s office.
Their next appearance in court is set for Jan. 9, the district attorney’s office said.
