FDNY units were summoned to the seven-story brick-building at 101 Castleton Ave. at approximately 3:54 p.m., according to a Fire Department spokesman. The blaze broke out on the third floor of the abandoned building, the spokesman said.
No injuries have been reported at this time.
The hospital closed its doors in Tompkinsville and moved to Ocean Breeze in 1979.
The site has been the location of several fires over the years, including at least two deemed suspicious in 2006. In January 1994, a blaze gutted the main hospital building’s third floor, sending 20-foot flames out of both sides of the structure.
