BUSHWICK — Six people were hurt, two of them critically, when an SUV full of kids slammed into the front of one car only to rear-end a double-parked milk truck making deliveries Monday morning, witnesses said.
The SUV was heading west on Evergreen Avenue about 7:30 a.m. when it hit a car that had just pulled into the intersection with Palmetto Street, according to witnesses.
The SUV then slammed into the back of a tractor trailer delivering milk to El Aguila Mini Market, witnesses said.
“I heard two huge crashes. I was looking out the window and I heard the screaming. She crushed the whole front of her car,” said Laura Pachecho, who lives nearby.
Terrell Carter, milk deliveryman, heard screeching tires as the SUV careened towards him and leaped out just before it slammed into his vehicle.
“Once I heard, I looked. I knew it was coming,” Carter said.
Two people suffered life-threatening injuries and were treated at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center, an FDNY spokesman said.
Three people were seriously injured, but listed in stable condition at the same hospital, officials said.
One person suffered minor injuries and also treated at Wyckoff, an FDNY spokesman said.
The SUV carried three kids and three adults and “a few of them had bloody noses,” Carter said.
Carter was grateful he avoided any serious injury.
“I think I would have been badly hurt. Milk would have landed on me. I was a little shaken up, especially when I saw the kids,” Carter said. “They’re innocent. They didn’t drive themselves.”
An NYPD spokeswoman didn’t have further details about the crash.
