Western Queens Gazette – July 07, 2016

The survivors of police and firefighters who died while responding to the World Trade Center attacks on September 11, 2011 were honored at a ceremony at Citi Field on June 30. Three family members of 9/11 heroes took to the field to throw out a first pitch before the Mets faced the Chicago Cubs a team spokesperson said.

“It’s our way of letting family members of the brave firefighters and police officers who lost their lives on that terrible day know that their sacrifice has not been forgotten,” the spokesperson said.

The event followed a pre-game barbeque with former Mets players, Police Commissioner Bill Bratton and Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro.

The honors were hosted by Answer the Call and the New York Police & Fire Widows & Children’s Benefit Fund.
