200+ firefighters, children, and grandchildren took part
TANNERSVILLE, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) – Camelback Resort gave back to some our nations’ bravest on Monday. More than 200 9/11 survivors and their families were treated to a free day at Aquatopia Indoor Waterpark.
This is a bittersweet day for Candice Woodlon. She’s having fun with her four kids, but her father passed away exactly two years ago today.
“It’s very sad, but I’m just happy that we had more time with him than most of the families. It could have been worse. We could have lost him on 9/11,” explains Candice Woodlon of Harlem.
William Woodlon was part of the New York City Fire Department. He responded to Ground Zero on 9/11.
Woodlon made it home safe, but started experiencing side affects overtime. He contracted lung and liver cancer.
“Every September 11th he and my mom would go away so they wouldn’t be reminded of things, especially with the news and the TV,” she adds.
Camelback Resort partnered with the FDNY Family Assistance Unit to give families, like the Woodlon’s, a break from their daily struggles.
