The FDNY’s chief medical officer — the department’s first female physician and a champion for long-term treatment for 9/11 first responders — retired on Friday alongside her close friend and former deputy chief medical officer.
Chief Medical Officer Kerry Kelly exited FDNY headquarters smiling broadly as she was joined by her husband, Daniel Jost. Her sons — SNL funnyman Colin Jost, and Casey Jost, comedy writer for Impractical Jokers — had joined her for a department breakfast earlier in the morning.
Kelly had just made her big exit when suddenly her recently retired colleague, Dr. Viola Ortiz, pulled up in a classic Mustang convertible.
