STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The fire at a popular West Brighton bar was likely set on purpose, a police source said Monday.
Sometime between 5:20 a.m. and 5:52 a.m. Friday, an individual or individuals entered through the back entrance of The West Cork Union Hall on Henderson Avenue by breaking the locked gate, according to an NYPD spokeswoman.
Authorities said $29,000 and two firearms were taken from the safe in the bar’s basement. The West Cork Union Hall is operated by a former police officer.
