SLEEPY HOLLOW – A retired New York City fire boat, docked in the Hudson River outside Purdy‘s Farmer & the Fish, could become a national historic landmark pending approval of an application, according to a part-owner of the boat.
Meanwhile, some riverside residents have complained that the boat obstructs their views, and have drawn some media attention to the issue.
The boat is owned by the Fireboat McKean Preservation Project Inc., which board member Michael Kaphan said was a nonprofit dedicated to preserving it.
“It‘s special,” Kaphan said. “For a lot of people, it‘s a piece of history.”
Kaphan said the organization submitted an application for historic status in late 2017, though he did not know when or if the application will be approved.
