STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A Sunday evening fire in New Brighton is under investigation, a spokesman for the FDNY said.

The blaze at 52 Brighton Ave. began at approximately 5:33 p.m., and was brought under control by 6:07 p.m., the spokesman said. There were no injuries.

The fire started on the second floor of the mixed-use building that has a laundromat on the first floor. Neighbors said the laundromat had been closed for over a year.

Department of Buildings records show two complaints made against the building in April 2016 regarding an unlocked door, and the possible presence of squatters.
