An 85-year-old woman was hospitalized in critical condition after a fire ripped through the top floor of an apartment building in the Bronx, officials said Monday.

Firefighters found the woman unconscious in a smoke-filled hallway at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday as they fought the blaze in the five-story building at 1038 Southern Boulevard in the Foxhurst neighborhood.

The woman, whose identity wasn’t disclosed by police, was the only person injured in the fire. She was taken to Lincoln Hospital with life-threatening injuries, officials said.

About 140 firefighters were at the scene and brought the fire under control before 10:30 p.m. Dozens of people managed to get out of the building.

The local Red Cross was helping 16 families who were displaced by the fire.

The fire marshal is looking into the cause of the fire.
