UPPER WEST SIDE — Two construction workers were knocked into a 10-foot-deep cellar by a door frame that became dislodged Thursday morning, officials said.
The pair was installing a new door and ramp on the first floor of 27 W. 86th St. around 9 a.m. when the accident occurred, according to representatives from theDepartment of Buildings and the FDNY.
Neither of the workers was equipped with fall protection and both were transported to an area hospital with serious injuries, according to the FDNY and DOB.
The Buildings department issued two violations, one for failing to provide fall protection and one for failing to keep construction plans on site, as well as an order to stop work on the ground floor.
Hector, a doorman for the building, saw one of them put into a waiting ambulance, he said.
“I just saw one guy put into an ambulance and taken to the hospital,” said Hector, who declined to give his name.
“He was awake,” the doorman added.
