After music-industry exec and art gallery owner Earl McGrath was memorialized on Saturday at Galleria Ca’ d’Oro, a bunch of big names who came to say farewell to their friend got trapped in an elevator on the way out — and firefighters had to come to their rescue.
Author Michael Gross wrote on Facebook that following the ceremony, he was “stuck in an elevator for 40 minutes” with guitarist and producer Peter Asher, ex-Viacom head Tom Freston, Richard Gere’s ex Carey Lowell, artist Francesco Clemente, “Grand Budapest Hotel” director Wes Anderson and “assorted de Menil ladies” from the famed art collecting family, as well as “Earl’s lovely eulogist,” Paul Lee.
Gross added, “Hail, hail FDNY for the rescue.” McGrath passed away at age 84 on Jan. 7.
