Cellphone Fire Prompts School Evacuation

Students of a Queens high school were evacuated and the NYPD bomb squad called in after a cellphone started a fire in a locker, authorities said.Approximately 30 firefighters, along with the NYPD’s Emergency Services Unit and bomb squad, responded to Bayside High School on Corporal Kennedy Street at 10 a.m., after the locker started smoking, according to officials.A cellphone with wires attached to batteries were discovered to be the source of the fire and was extinguished by 11:25 a.m., officials said.Students were soon allowed to return to school, cops said
