A 61-year-old man found dead in an early morning inferno in a Brooklyn apartment building in October was murdered, a police source said Wednesday. Firefighters pulled Steven Dodson from the flames of the first-floor apartment where he lived on Herkimer St. near Malcolm X Boulevard in Bedford-Stuyvesant around 3 a.m. on Oct. 2, Fire Department sources said.

Investigators later determined an accelerant was used to start the flames and there was evidence that Dodson may have been dead before the fire started, a police source said Wednesday.

The death was ruled a homicide on Jan. 4, the source said.

The motive behind the killing was not immediately clear, and police said there were no identified suspects in the case.
