STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Ten people were treated for non-life-threatening injuries following a house fire in Westerleigh on Friday afternoon.
Nine firefighters were transported to local hospitals and one civilian was treated at the scene, according to an FDNY spokesman.
The fire started at approximately 12:51 p.m. at 61 Watchogue Rd., and quickly spread to two alarms, according to the FDNY.
The fire started in the basement of the two-story home and spread to the first floor, second floor and attic, the Fire Department said.
The fire was reported under control by 1:15 p.m.
More than 20 emergency vehicles responded to the scene, blocking Watchogue back to its intersection with Victory Boulevard. A portion of Watchogue was closed as a result of the response.
