BEDFORD-STUYVESANT — Firefighters rescued a man after his right leg became trapped in a small sinkhole on a Bed-Stuy street Tuesday morning, according to the FDNY and witnesses.
The fire department received a call at 11:13 a.m. reporting the man’s leg was trapped in a sinkhole at the intersection of Myrtle Avenue and Walworth Street, fire officials said.
A man who said he works with the victim at a nearby auto repair shop recalled that the street collapsed under his coworker’s foot, leaving him painfully trapped nearly thigh-deep in the pavement.
“From what I understand he was walking and the ground gave way. I ran over there and he was stuck in the ground, and the fire department was just arriving when I got there,” said Joe Grunbaum of Kings County Autobody, Inc.
“It almost looked like he didn’t have a leg. He seemed to be in a lot of pain.”
A video showed three firefighters pull the man out of the hole, revealing a shoeless foot.
