A man and woman fishing on a boat off Queens on Sunday had to be rescued when their craft started sinking, police said.
The 55-year-old man and 34-year-old woman were on board a 24-foot fiberglass fishing boat about a mile south of the Rockaway Peninsula off Breezy Point when they began taking on water around 1:15 p.m., authorities said.
They sent out a distress signal that was picked up by the NYPD Aviation Unit and the NYPD and FDNY harbor units.
When police arrived, they found the woman treading water and placed her in a Stokes basket, and she was then airlifted to Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn, police said.
The FDNY boarded the sinking ship and helped the man to patch it up enough to prevent it from taking on anymore water, officials said.
The boat and the man were then towed to shore.
Neither person was injured, officials said.
