Assemblymembers Mike Miller and Catherine Nolan met with the firefighters of Engine 286/Ladder Company 135, also known as the “Myrtle Turtles,” to present copies of a Resolution that was adopted in both the New York State Assembly and New York State Senate this session in honor of the late Firefighter William Tolley. The Resolution, K 612/J 2723, pays tribute to the life and valiant service of Firefighter William Tolley, who died in the line of duty on April 20, 2017.

“William ‘Billy’ Tolley was appointed to the Fire Department of New York on September 14, 2003.  After graduating from the FDNY Fire Academy, he was assigned to Ladder Company 135.  Firefighter Tolley was also a volunteer firefighter in his hometown of Bethpage, New York,” said Assemblyman Miller.  “Many firefighters have lost their lives to save the lives of others.  Each and every day they face danger and peril without fear and perform their job with the utmost concern and professionalism; Firefighter William Tolley was one such firefighter who died doing what he loved.”

“It was an honor to present a Resolution with Assemblyman Mike Miller to Engine 286/Ladder 135 in Glendale, Queens recognizing the heroic sacrifice of firefighter William Tolley,” said Assemblywoman Nolan.  “He will long be remembered in the Ridgewood-Glendale community.  I would like to thank all of the firefighters who risk their lives every day to keep the public safe.  I will continue to advocate for additional fire service and safety measures for all firefighters and our communities.”

Assemblymembers Miller and Nolan thanked, in particular, Matthew Desjardin of the Uniformed Firefighters Association for putting the gathering together.  This Resolution was their way of paying tribute to a community hero who had performed above and beyond the call of duty for the past 14 years.
