10 LIRR Lines Shut Down after Chemical Leak

an hour Monday morning after a chemical leaked into the agency’s control station in Jamaica, Queens, FDNY officials said.

Six people were taken to Jamaica Hospital after they were exposed to the chemical, halon, which is found in fire extinguishers, sources said. All the injuries were minor, FDNY officials said.

The control center was evacuated and train service was shut down from about 9:37 to 10:32 a.m., the FDNY said.

Residual delays on the LIRR are expected, the MTA said.
