Very Painful Loss

NY Daily News – July 11, 2014

So devastated was Nanette Ambelas by the death of her husband, FDNY Lt. Gordon Matthew Ambelas, she understandably could not read his eulogy in front of the thousands of mourners, including 6,000 of the Bravest, assembled at Thursday’s funeral.
A friend did the honors, carrying a hero to his grave with his wife’s loving words:

“I shouldn’t be surprised your untimely passing was because you were trying to save someone. You saved me. I wish you could save me now. How am I supposed to breathe without you? Who will pick me up when I fall now?”

Mrs. Ambelas’ loss is immeasurable. The city in whose service her husband died can only wish her some measure of solace.
