Harlem Apartment Building Fire Injures 3, FDNY Says

HARLEM, NY — A fire broke out in a Harlem apartment building Wednesday morning, sending one three people the hospital, an FDNY spokesman said.

Firefighters responded to 409 Edgecombe Ave., located near West 155th Street, shortly after 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, fire officials said. The fire was placed under control by 4:34 p.m., an FDNY spokesman said.

Three people were injured during the fire and taken to area hospitals, an FDNY spokesman said. One person was taken to Harlem Hospital, one person was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital and the third person was taken to New York Presbyterian Hospital, an FDNY spokesman said.

Two of the three people injured are civilians and one is a firefighter, an FDNY spokesman said.

Police officials from the NYPD’s 30th precinct warned people to avoid Edgecombe avenue between West 150th and 155th streets as emergency personnel worked on the scene of the fire.
