FDNY Battalion Chief Michael Fahy death: Trial set in marijuana grow house explosion

The trial is set for April for two men accused in a Bronx marijuana grow house explosion and fire that killed FDNY Battalion Chief Michael Fahy.

Fahy, 44, was a Rockland County native and 1990 graduate of North Rockland High School who lived with his wife and three young children in the Crestwood section of Yonkers. He was directing operations at the scene of a gas leak in the Kingsbridge section of the Bronx Sept. 27, 2016, before the building exploded and part of the roof struck him in the head and chest.

The trial for suspects Garivaldi Castillo and Julio Salcedo, who are accused of running the large marijuana grow house that caused the explosion, is scheduled to begin on April 10 in Bronx County Supreme Court.

Both were charged with manslaughter.

“My client is eager to have his day in court and vindicate himself against these charges,” Castillo’s lawyer Daniel McGuinness said. “He’s been waiting a long time.”
