It looks like the main personality trait the FDNY is testing would-be firefighters for is . . . a readiness to cheat.
As Susan Edelman reported in Sunday’s Post, the “personality” section of a key exam is the subject of multiple, detailed test-prep tips from both professional services and the Vulcan Society. Other insiders surely share similar advice less formally.
The Vulcan instructions, for example, are crystal-clear on the kinds of questions where you should answer “strongly agree” or “strongly disagree” to score well — and this section counts for 50 points on the 100-point exam.
Of course, this is just the first step in a long process to whittle 70,000 applicants down to future probationary firefighters. Actual training will surely knock out many of the liars before they make it to probie status.
But it’s still sad to see what a joke the path to joining the ranks of New York’s Bravest has become.
