NJ Advance Media for NJ.com NEW YORK — Emergency responders had to send a rescue swimmer into the Hudson River on Wednesday to pull a woman to safety after she jumped into the river near the Jacob Javits Center, authorities said.

The unidentified woman plunged into the chilly water around 10 p.m. off 34th Street, according to the volunteer New York Response Rescue Team, which assisted with the FDNY and NYPD with emergency lighting.

Crews tossed a flotation ring to the woman, but she did not grab it, video shows. A member of the NYPD’s Emergency Services Unit truck 1 then entered the water and pulled her to the river edge.

The woman was brought to a local hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening, the NYRRT said.

It’s not known why she leaped into the river.
