UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Four people were injured when a fire tore through the top floor of a six-story apartment building on the Upper East Side early Thursday morning, an FDNY spokeswoman told Patch.

The fire broke out on sixth floor of 529 E. 85th St., between East End and York avenues, at 1:03 a.m. and spread to the building’s cockloft, the FDNY spokeswoman said. Twenty-five FDNY units, containing 2016 firefighters, responded to the scene of the fire and had it under control by 1:51 a.m., the spokeswoman said.

Two civilians suffered minor injuries during the fire, the FDNY spokeswoman told Patch. One firefighter suffered a minor injury and another suffered “a little more” than minor injuries, the spokeswoman said.

The fire marshall is investigating the cause of the fire, which is currently unknown, an FDNY spokeswoman told Patch.
