Firefighters from Monmouth and Ocean Counties and throughout the state will pay honor to two Monmouth County Firefighters who died in the line of duty last year during the 16th Annual Firefighters’ Memorial March in the Belmar-Lake Como St. Patrick’s Day Parade Sunday, March 5.

The tribute will honor the memories of Daniel McCann, chief engineer of Manasquan Hook and Ladder Company No.1where he was a member for 25 years, and Eatontown Chief Engineer Richard Zadorozny, who was also a former Department Chief and firefighter for 48 years.

The march continues a memorial tradition begun in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001 deaths of 343 members of the Fire Department New York (FDNY.) The firefighters’ march honors the memory of fallen Monmouth and Ocean County, firefighters from around the state who died in the line of duty, and the members of the FDNY who died on 9/11.

Firefighters are invited to “join with us to help keep our promise: ‘We will never forget,'” said Douglas Davenport, association president and a past chief of Wall Fire Company No. 1.

We are again inviting all first responders – first aid squads, EMTs, water rescue teams to join us, he said.

The Belmar-Lake Como parade is believed to be the largest such event in the state drawing hundreds of thousands of parade goers.

The Union County Police and Fire Pipes and Drums, and the Wanamassa Fire Department Color Guard will lead the marchers.

The annual tribute is organized by the South Monmouth County Fire Chiefs Association.

The march has the support and participation of numerous fire departments and fire chiefs’ associations. In past years firefighters from throughout the state and members of the FDNY have participated in the event.

Individual firefighters are also welcomed to join the tribute march.

A committee of fire chiefs and ex-chiefs are working on plans for the tribute.

There will be a brief memorial tribute dedication ceremony at the parade reviewing stand.

Fire departments or firefighters wishing to participate are invited to sign up online at http://firefightersmarch.wordpress.master.com/texis/master/search/poll.html or, contact Robert Jenkins, for information 732-292-1100.
