STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Two people were injured when a car hit a utility pole on Hylan Boulevard in Midland Beach shortly before noon on Tuesday.

The two patients suffered serious, but not life-threatening injuries, and were transported to Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze, said a spokesman for the FDNY/EMS.

EMS and other FDNY members along with the NYPD responded to the scene of the crash reported at 11:56 a.m. at Hylan Boulevard and Greeley Avenue, said a spokesman for the FDNY/EMS.

According to a witness, who asked to be identified as Louie, three people were injured in the crash, including two children.

The Fire Department spokesman was unable to provide ages or other information about the wounded.

Emergency responders put a neck brace on the driver, while two children, who were walking with their mom, were injured as well, possibly by debris that flew off from the car, the witness said.

A red Hyundai Sonata Sport with heavy front-end damage could be seen on Hylan in front of Champ’s Beverages.

Traffic has slowed to crawl on Hylan Boulevard heading towards Lincoln Avenue due to the accident, according to people who post on Waze.com.
