LOWER EAST SIDE, NY — A “smoke condition” in a five-story building sparked an all-hands-on-deck fire on the roof of a residential building in the Lower East Side Tuesday morning.

The fire, at 3 Clinton St. between Stanton and East Houston streets, extended into the space between the exterior roof and interior ceilings of the top floor, the FDNY said.

The call came in to the FDNY just after 11 a.m., and they brought it under control at about 11:45 a.m., the FDNY said.

There were 12 trucks deployed and around 60 firemen at the scene, according to an FDNY spokesperson. The FDNY was still investigating the cause of the fire late Tuesday morning.
