FDNY responds to water main break in Mariners Harbor

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The FDNY responded to a reported water main break in Mariners Harbor Monday afternoon, a spokesman for the department said.

The apparent break happened at approximately 5:28 p.m. on the 100 block of Van Pelt Avenue, according to the spokesman.

He said a basement was flooded, and that the water had been removed from the basement as of 8:47 p.m.

The DEP did not respond to immediate request for comment Monday night, and it was unclear if water to any homes had been shut.
