FDNY Investigates Cause of Queens House Fire

NY 1 – March 31, 2016

The city fire department is trying to figure out what started an early morning fire that burned through two homes in Queens early Tuesday morning. Flames broke out just after 2 a.m. inside a house located at 23-41 91st Street in East Elmhurst.

The fire then spread to a neighboring home.

The flames were under control by 4 a.m.

Investigators say the fire started in the back of the first house, possibly in the garage.

“Well, I was just watching TV, whatever, and then I heard a car alarm. The smoke alarm went off. I saw the flames by the kitchen so I had rushed out everyone from my family out the house, and we saw the big flame coming out,” said one resident.

Six firefighters were hurt.

Four were taken to the hospital but have since been released.
