The FDNY says a three alarm house fire on Staten Island Monday night that left a probationary firefighter with severe burns was accidental due an an electrical problem. The fire broke out just before 9 p.m. inside the basement of a two-story home located at 1053 Sinclair Avenue in Woodrow. Investigators say Firefighter Lawrence Wasser, 23, fell through the living room floor to the basement after flames melted away some of the home’s support beams. “It burned away 12 beams in the basement, it was ordinary construction. Twelve beams is a lot of beams to burn away so it was a heavy, heavy fire condition in the basement,” said FDNY Chief of Department James Leonard. Wasser, who is assigned to Ladder 82, was taken to the hospital with second and third degree burns. Several people who live in the house were able to escape and were not injured.
